Stories from the Field
Real moments of joy, hope, and transformation from our visits across Cambodia.
The Smiles of Battambang
March 2026 — Battambang Province
Our team of 8 volunteers set out before dawn, driving three hours along dirt roads to reach three villages that had never received outside support for their schools.
When we arrived at the first village, we found 60 children sitting in a wooden schoolhouse with no supplies at all. The teacher had been writing on the floor with a stick. We distributed 200 supply packs — notebooks, pencils, crayons, rulers, erasers, and backpacks.
The moment the children opened their packs, the room erupted. Laughter, squeals of excitement, children hugging their new pencil cases like treasures. One boy, around 7 years old, held up a set of crayons and whispered "Thank you" in English — the first English words he'd ever spoken.
These are the moments that remind us why we do this.
Every trip tells a story.
Colours for the First Time
In a small school outside Siem Reap, we met Channa — a 6-year-old girl who had never seen crayons before. When we handed her a box of 24 colours, she carefully opened it and stared in wonder. Then she started drawing flowers. Her teacher told us she hadn't stopped smiling since.
A Village Transformed
When we returned to Koh Andet village — a community we'd visited a year earlier — the change was remarkable. School attendance had doubled. The headteacher told us that parents were now prioritising education because their children had supplies to work with.
Our Biggest Trip Yet
With the help of 12 volunteers and generous donations, we embarked on a week-long journey through Pursat province. We visited 5 villages, 8 schools, and handed out over 500 supply packs. The logistics were challenging, but the rewards were immeasurable.
The Pencil That Changed Everything
Sokha, a quiet 8-year-old boy, received his first pencil from our team. His teacher told us he went from being the most disengaged student to the most enthusiastic. He now writes stories every day and dreams of becoming a teacher himself.
When Volunteers Cry Too
It's not just the children who are moved. On our trip to Kampong Cham, several of our volunteers were in tears watching children react to receiving backpacks. "I've never seen such pure happiness," said one first-time volunteer.
Where It All Began
Our very first visit — a small village 90 minutes from Phnom Penh. We brought 30 supply packs, not knowing what to expect. We left with full hearts and a mission that would change our lives forever.
